How we handle your information
This page describes how ilali Labs collects and uses personal information for the infant gut microbiome test. It reflects how the product works today. Last updated 20 August 2026.
Who we are
ilali Labs is the responsible party for this website and the test. Questions: hello@ilalilabs.co.za.
What we collect
When you order a kit we collect parent contact details, delivery address, and information about the child (name, date of birth, height, weight, birth and feeding history, and health-related details you choose to give us, such as allergies or antibiotics). That health information can be special personal information under POPIA. We only collect it with your consent, so we can prepare the kit and interpret the sample in context.
When you link a tube we collect the tube barcode, your consents, and — if you book a courier — pickup address and contact details. Practitioner enquiries collect name, occupation, practice, email, phone and any note you send.
Why we use it
To take your order, deliver a kit, match a sample to the right child, sequence and report on the sample, arrange return shipping when you ask us to, and reply to practitioner interest. We do not use this information for marketing lists. The test is a wellness and education product: it does not diagnose, treat or predict disease.
Who else sees it
We use operators only to run the product: website and database hosting, sending us a notice when someone orders or enquires, a courier when you book a pickup, and a South African laboratory to sequence the sample. We do not sell personal details, and we do not share them with unrelated third parties.
Some of those operators may process data outside South Africa. We only use them to provide the test.
Your report is yours
The report belongs to you and your child. You can ask us for a copy, or ask us to delete personal information we hold, by emailing hello@ilalilabs.co.za. We may need to keep limited records where the law requires it (for example, accounting or a sample already in the lab).
Consent
Order and link-sample forms record the consents you tick (POPIA for you and your child, health information, sample testing, and operators such as the lab and courier). You can withdraw consent by emailing us. If you withdraw before we process the sample, we will stop. If the sample is already in process, we will explain what we can still change.
Cookies and this website
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site does not run analytics pixels. Forms send only what you type, to provide the test or to answer an enquiry.
